carnival_13 1937 -

Carnival procession, 1937 marching up the High Street past International Stores (now Co-op). Leading the parade is the Bellman and Town Crier, Sid Bushnell, followed by the young heralds Margaret Cox (later Margaret Williams) and Mary McCarthy. The Carnival Queen is Mrs. Harvey, with the Constable Jimmie Munford taking her arm. Holding her train are Cissie Clements and Joyce Elliot. The carnival Queen was always the person who had sold the most raffle tickets! Competition was stiff!
