You are in [Themes] [Town and Manor] [Properties Attracting Common Rights]

Certain properties in Hungerford have "Common Rights". They are properties which were originally listed in the 1612 James I Grant. There is a map in the Town Hall which shows Common Right properties.

There are about 109 houses in the Town and Manor, (of which three are merely the sites of former properties), as well as a further 19 in the Liberty of Sanden Fee (of which two are sites of demolished buildings). Most are in High Street, Bridge Street and Church Street, but others are in The Marsh, Prosperous, Sanham, Hornhill, and Beacon Farm.

Common Rights are not transferable, being held by the Commoner in person, who must be the owner/occupier of the property with rights, and must actually live within 5 miles of the Town Hall. Common Rights are deferred for 6 months after occupation, after which the Commoner is required to sign the Hocktide Rules.

For further information about what are Common Rights, see The Town and Manor Today.
