You are in [Themes] [Town and Manor] [Common and Freeman's Marsh]

The common lands of Hungerford are split between two large areas:

- Hungerford Common Port Down (east of the town) and

- Freeman's Marsh (west of the town).

A further 30 acres to the north-east of the town (Harvey's Meadow) is a managed SSSI.

All are important areas of wildlife, and have an interesting history.

Commoners have the right to graze cattle on the Common (or Freeman's Marsh for Sanden Fee Commoners) between 15th April and 31st October each year. Fishing is from 1st May until 30th September, with grayling fishing continuing until December.
