Local Information:

Percy Rosier was born in Shalbourne, Wiltshire in 1893 and was the son of Tom Rosier and Ellen (nee Rolfe).

Prior to joining the army, he had been a blacksmith. He was one of 5 children, with a brother named Harry James and
three sisters named Ada Sarah, Mabel Ellen and Edith Amy.

Percy Rosier was a gunner in the 4th battalion of the Royal Garrison artillery, a unit were responsible for operating the heavy guns, both on the Western Front and along the coast of England.

He died on Wed 7th April 1920 aged 27 years, in Headington, near Oxford, presumably in the army hospital and was buried in St. Saviour's churchyard on 10th April 1920. He received a military funeral with a Methodist minister officiating.

At the time of his death, his parents were living in Eddington. His father Tom worked for the parish council and was responsible for the upkeep of a section of road which included grass cutting, cleaning ditches, clearing verges of weeds and litter pick up.

His cause of death is not known at this time.

He was a member of the Royal Garrison artillery who were responsible for operating the heavy guns, both on the Western Front and along the coast of England. We do not know which battery he was attached to.
