Hungerford Parish Council considered changing the street lighting from gas to electricity in 1921.

The Wantage Road / Bath Road junction was considered especially dangerous, and was recommended for improved lighting. The Managing Director of the Wessex Electric Company was asked to attend the Parish Council meeting with a view to converting this for street lighting.

In the end, the whole town was to be fully lit by electricity by 15th November 1927.

The HHA has an invoice from Wessex Electric Company to Hungerford Parochial Church Council for a service charge connecting the Church for electric supply. Invoice dated Quarter ending Dec 31 1930.

The offices and generating plant for the Wessex Electricity Company were at Smitham Bridge Road.
