You are in [Places] [Great Estates] [North Standen]

North Standen (in earlier days also known as Standen Chaworth after the family who lived there in the late 13th century) is first recorded in 1169. The present house is said to date from 1792.

There was an advert in the Reading Mercury of 15th June 1795 when Mr John Smith, who was leaving North Standen Farm, sold by auction all the farming stock along with part of the household furniture and effects.

Lord Rootes, the owner in the 1970s and 80s described discovering a chimney with Elizabethan bricks in the heart of the house during some alterations.
